Blue Trail Project – Green for Alberta

by
Calgary-based TransAlta Corporation says it will design, build and operate a 66 MW wind power project in southern Alberta. The $115 million Blue Trail wind farm, located four kilometres from Fort Macleod, is expected to begin commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2009. CEO Steve Snyder says the project will help alleviate some of the supply concerns in the province. “Wind power is a key resource for meeting the demand for competitively priced and environmentally sustainable electricity in the Alberta market,” he says. The project is part of TransAlta’s drive to capitalize on growth opportunities in its core western markets through the addition of wind, small hydro, geothermal and co-generation assets.
